Santa Eulalia

Less than 20km separates Santa Eulalia (Santa Eulària) from the vibrant lights of San Antonio, however as far as coastal resorts go, the two couldn’t be further apart.

The area first came to prominence in the 1960’s when hippies were attracted by the stunning scenery, split up by the charming white fincas and deep natural fjords. Much of this original charm remains, providing the ideal setting for the relaxed pace of life that entices thousands of families and couples to the area each year.

The town itself is fortunate enough to be graced with a number of wonderful hotels and restaurants; some of which are the best on the island. The Calle San Vicente has a real ‘Fiesta’ atmosphere, where idyllic restaurants line the street on both sides offering various types of cuisine from Japanese to French, not forgetting the traditional Spanish tapas!

Alternatively, the newly built marina that attracts the affluent ‘wetset’ crowd is an enjoyable place to relax, day or night. Set back from the rows of luxury yachts are a selection of entertaining bars, fine eateries and fashionable shops that are popular with visitors and locals alike.

Heading out of town stands Santa Eulalia’s most recognisable landmark, the 16th Century parish church on the Puig de Missa. Built on a hill with a fortified tower, the church resembles a mini fortress and was predominantly used as means of a lookout station for any approaching pirate ships that were not uncommon throughout this period. Today, the views from the top are simply breathtaking, reaching out all over the bay and beyond.

For those who want to explore further afield, the surrounding areas have much to offer. Although Santa Eulalia has two fine beaches of its own, an abundance of picturesque coves and shallow waters makes the region so exciting for those who are willing to explore. Horse riding in Santa Gertrudis, the captivating village of San Carlos or alternatively the notorious hippy market located just outside Es Canar are all experiences in their own right and well worth the visit.
