Ibiza Town

Ibiza Town (Eivissa), the oldest and most famous town in Ibiza, is located on the island’s South-Eastern coast, 7.5km from the airport. Being the capital of one of the leading entertainment destinations worldwide, one would expect there to be an energetic ‘buzz’ about the town. The vibrant and mesmeric streets of Sa Marina, that lie adjacent to the harbour of Botafoch, supporting rows of opulent yachts, fail to disappoint. However, what truly makes Ibiza Town so invigorating is that this cosmopolitan vicinity is set barely a stone’s throw away from Dalt Vila, the ‘high town’ laden with Spanish charm and character.

There are four district areas of Ibiza Town, each contributing in their own unique manner. Presiding over the harbour is Dalt Vila, a medieval fortification surrounded by magnificent sandstone walls. Inside these walls is a wealth of historical buildings, separated by the meandering cobbled streets that lead up to the stunning gothic cathedral, standing at the peak of the town. Witnessing the sun set from the pinnacle of the town is justifiably a memorable experience with views stretching out over Ibiza and nearby Formentera.

Lying in between the walls of Dalt Vila and the port, is the area of Sa Marina. Quiet by day but pulsating by night, this is the place to be seen after dark. Packed full of stylish bars, restaurants and clubs, Sa Marina really comes to life from the minute that the sun sets. The ‘Ibiza triangle’ is central to nightlife here, where trendy cocktail and music bars compete with one another for the highly acclaimed destination of pre-club hang out. Further into the narrow streets of Sa Marina, there are a number of fashion boutiques that abut a market selling anything from neon clothing to arts and crafts.

Further along from Sa Marina, jutting out into the port is the atmospheric area of Sa Penya. Although some parts can be unsafe by night, the narrow streets of Carrer de la Verge and Carrer d’Alfons XII are well worth a visit. Synonymous with gay Ibiza, these streets come alive with flamboyancy and colour at night, where the legendary club parades come to a head.

Although not boasting a beach of its own, the quaint beach at Talamanca is only a 15 minute walk. Alternatively to the south of the Ibiza Town lie the resorts of Figueretes and Playa d’en Bossa, the latter hosting the longest beach on the island at 3km. Having said that, with all Ibiza Town’s charm and excitement, it is unlikely that one will have to look further afield for entertainment.
